Aaron Neville, a tall, muscular man with intense eyes, who can rock you with his New Orleans Rhythm and Blues sound a man who can touch your soul and lift you to a higher place. Aaron's gospel roots run deep. He was born in New Orleans on January 24, 1941. Among his earliest memories are those of his grandmothers as they rocked him to the gospel music of Brother Joe May, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Mahalia Johnson and Clara Ward. The Trinity Methodist Church that his father and Auntie Cat attended, when he first heard the gospel classic " Jesus Loves Me". And of St. Monica's, the Catholic Church of his childhood, where he first expereinced the peace and inner calm of spiritual music. Throughout his life, Aaron has found serenity in the voices of the gospel quartets of the golden era. He has been both inspired and influenced by the recordings of The Five Blind Boys, The Pilgrim Travelers, The Brooklyn All-Stars, The Highway O.C.s and Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers. Every year for the last decade and a half, Aaron has joined The Zion Harmonizers in the Gospel Tent at the annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. One hears the joy in his heart when he describes the singing and the audiences in that tent each year. Aaron chose songs from the full spectrum of gospel music for this project. This collection is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream of Aaron Neville.
